The Power of Mother

The Power of Mother

The Power of Mother features a woman who has her hands around the moon. She is wearing a transformation mask, which is only worn by the most revered women, and she has killer whales jumping out of her hair, as if she has control over the moon, which is controlling the tides. Everything is connected.

I was basically thinking how my mother used to tease me as a child by saying she could see everything I was doing because she eyes in the back of her head.

I thought that was a powerful thing, and it was a joke. I could not get away with anything because she had eyes in the back of her head, so I called this piece The Power of Mother, because in a sense mothers have a very strong influence over their children. When you are little you see your mother as almost amazing and magical, and she can do anything. It is important for mothers to see this and how important it is for us to influence our children, and who we are, and what we do, in the right way, because remember, when you are a child you do view your mother as your guidance and this painting was about that.
