Vision Quest

Vision Quest

If I close my eyes will I see?
If so, I want to fly over the earth and smile
Feel the cool wind blow through me
Watch a sunset from the top of an old growth cedar
Fly over sparkling reflections of sunlight on rivers
Watch humanity dance and appreciate that they
are alive If I close my eyes I will see
until I awaken once again.

Vision Quests are something the first nations people have been bdoing for thousands and thousands of years, from one end of the island to the other, in parts of the interior, as well as other provinces across Canada. Vision Quests are very important to center and balance us. What we do is go without food and water for a few days, called a fast. It allows us to be much more in tune with our environment, which then allows us to be closer to God, the Creator, who in turn answers our prayers. These practices have been going on for hundreds of generations and a lot of people have described Vision Quest as their being transformed into an eagle and they are flying, and the eagle in this piece represents that.
